Botanical

Materials of all types may be used in encaustic painting – including such relatively delicate objects as flowers and other plant life.

I have used flowers in my work for years. Flowers given me by friends; flowers which have a special meaning because of their connection with a particular event or location; or simply flowers which I come across while out walking.

I cover flowers and other such delicate materials in thin glazes of encaustic. Placed on a surface already covered in encaustic layers, they add an additional and dramatic dimensional sense. The finished piece may look fragile but is surprisingly strong.
